The majority of students are self-funded. However, there is funding available from a range of different sources if you meet the criteria attached to the funding.
The Northern Institute for Cancer Research has a number of competitive Scholarships, Bursaries and Studentships for which students who register on the M.Res. in Cancer Programme are eligible. Awards of between £2,000 and £14,450 are available: NICR Masters Academic Scholarships, NICR CRUK Translational Prize Bursaries, NICR CRUK Translational Prize Medical Student Bursary, NICR NECCR Paediatric Oncology Studentships and NICR NCCRS William Allan and Emma Gyles Bursaries in Gynaecological Oncology.

The Institute of Neuroscience at Newcastle University has a limited number of bursaries (usually to the value of £2,000) attached specifically to the Neuroscience strand of the MRes Medical and Molecular Biosciences. It is open to UK, EU and international students.

The Centre for Behaviour and Evolution at Newcastle University has a limited number of Scholarships (usually to the value of £1,000) available to students who apply for either the MRes in Animal Behaviour or the MRes in Evolution and Human Behaviour. It is open to UK, EU and international students who are not already fully funded by external sources.

A small number of scholarships provided by the Faculty of Medical Sciences (value £1,000) are available. All self-funding international (non-EU) applicants for 2012 entry into the MRes Programmes and MSc in Medical Sciences will be eligible and will be automatically considered upon acceptance of an unconditional or conditional offer.

Each year, funding is secured for a number of integrated MRes/PhD studentships. Due to funding criteria, many of these opportunities are only available to UK/EU students. Depending on how you meet the criteria you may receive a full award (covers fees and provides an annual stipend) or a partial award (covers fees only). The Faculty of Medical Sciences has available a small number of Overseas Research Studentship (ORS) awards for outstanding international students to pursue MRes/PhD studies. Newcastle University Indian Scholarship (NUIS PG) awards are available for high achieving Indian students applying for entry onto postgraduate taught degree programmes within the Faculties of Science, Agriculture and Engineering (SAgE), Medical Sciences (FMS) and the Newcastle University Business School (NUBS) commencing their studies in September 2012. Each scholarship will have a value of £2,000, payable towards the first year of tuition fees. There are 10 scholarships available for 2012 entry.
Newcastle University International Postgraduate Scholarship (NUIPS) awards are available for international students starting their studies in September 2012, in the 2012-13 academic year. Each scholarship will have a value of £1,500 per year, payable towards tuition fees. There are 70 scholarships available for September 2012 entry.
This is a 20% fees discount for UK, EU and international students who have previously studied at Newcastle and meet the terms and conditions of the Discount.
