Newcastle University together with its NHS partner Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has recognised the need to deliver high quality research training to those working within the healthcare sector. To deliver such training the partnership is developing a part-time, modular qualification that will deliver training within the Research Governance Framework.
The programme will provide professionals within the NHS (and international equivalents), ancillary services and Industry with a comprehensive understanding of the processes involved in preparing for, planning, conducting, analysing and writing-up clinical research including; how to obtain legal and ethical approval for clinical research, how to design studies, collect and analyse data, and how to produce and evaluate written reports based on those studies.
The programme delivery will be shared between academic and current NHS staff (Clinicians, Senior Nurses and Trial Coordinators) to ensure that the materials are both academically rigorous and fully contextualised. This programme is aimed at all professionals who require a thorough generic training in research methodology.
