Dementias and Neurodegenerative Diseases

Magnetic Resonance ImagingThis theme aims to:

  • advance clinical practice in early recognition and diagnosis of dementia and neurodegenerative diseases in older people;
  • assess and treat these disorders at a stage when preserving independent function and maintaining optimum quality of life remain realistic goals; and
  • enable patients to benefit from the earliest possible therapeutic interventions, including risk factor modification.

We have strong links with the stroke and cardiovascular ageing and mitochondrial themes and also benefits from synergy with the Dementias & Neurodegenerative Diseases local and national networks.

The Newcastle Brain Tissue Resource (NBTR)  is a particularly valuable resource underpinning our clinico-pathological and translational research studies.

You can also find out about the Dementias and Neurodegenerative Diseases (DemaNDs) Research Group.
