Liver Disease in Ageing
This theme aims to:
- Conduct a multidisciplinary assessment of the prevalence and causes of risk factors for falls and fractures in older people with liver disease;
- Determine the prevalence of autonomic dysfunction in the elderly liver disease population and its contribution to morbidity and mortality;
- Determine the cause of chronic inflammation in cholestatic liver disease and its potential as a treatable cause for morbidity and/or cause mortality in chronic liver disease patients; and
- Determine the role of age-related mitochondrial dysfunction in myopathy and disease pathogenesis in patients with chronic liver disease.
We collaborate closely with the cardiovascular disease and mitochondrial themes.
