Flow Cytometry - University of Newcastle Core Facility

The Flow cytometry core facility is currently split across two sites within the University campus to enable optimal access for cell  sorting and analytical flow cytometry.

The two sites that house the shared facility are the Institute of Human Genetics, International centre for life and 3rd Floor William Leech building, Medical school .

Across the two sites we have a comprehensive suite of instrumentation which includes

Cell Sorting

The sorting facilities offer a 4 laser custom built Aria II , as well as a FACSDiva cell sorter

Cell sorters

Multi parameter cell analysis

LSR IIHigh end instrumentation includes

LSR II- 5 laser  (2 Forward scatter detectors, 1 of which is PMT driven) with H.T.S.
LSR II- 3 laser
FACSCanto II 3 laser

Routine analysis instrumentation

FACSCalibur
FACSCan (x3)

Support instrumentation

Beckman Coulter Vi Cell ,  cell and viability counter.

Becton Dickinson Lyse wash assistant (x2)

Becton Dickinson cell counter & wash assistant

Training and advice is supplied by 3 dedicated staff  who are happy to advise on experimental design  and the optimal  use of appropriate instrumentation .

The department also runs an in depth 2 day colour compensation course and a yearly one day flow cytometry meeting, both of these courses attract  local and European delegate interest.
