Current Work

The clinical management of partially dentate older persons presents immediate and growing problems to dental care providers. Recent and current research that examines effectiveness of the various treatment options for these patients through clinical trials and national surveys has materially changed delivery of care and is leading to the development of evidence based care pathways for such patients. This research has involved collaboration with the Institute of Health and Society, Newcastle University; University of Cork, Ireland and University Greifswald, Germany.

Investigations into treatment outcomes for hypodontia (absence of teeth) and, with the Institute of Human Genetics, into the molecular mechanisms underlying hypodontia have improved delivery of care and will inform the development of novel treatments for the condition.

Future Research

Identification of potential candidate genes for hypodontia and investigations, with the Institute of Human Genetics, into the molecular mechanisms underlying hypodontia.
