Aims

This module aims to enable students to develop personal leadership knowledge and skills.
This is a face to face module which enables participants to develop skills to be an effective leader. The module will allow students to understand their strengths and weaknesses in their current leadership style and further develop where required.
Students will explore leadership theory including transactions and the transformational model. This module aims to increase the students self awareness of their own leadership style, including resilience, personal characteristics, strengths and weaknesses and team working and team building.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The teaching methods are varied and include lectures, small group teaching, reflective learning including development of a reflective portfolio, workshop activities and independent study. Intended learning outcomes include an understanding of leadership theory and a focus on current and optimal leadership style and building on the individual's ability to develop current to optimal leadership style. Lectures and self directive reading will inform the increased understanding of leadership styles and theory, the diagnostic interaction will confirm current leadership style and the reflective elements and coaching will transform individuals from current to optimal leadership style to enable the student to become a transformational leader.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

As part of their leadership journey, the student should be able to critically appraise their own and others leadership style, using a range of diagnostic and assessment tools. In completing the portfolio assessment will allow them to gain insight into their own personal leadership style which will help them to critically evaluate the impact of their learning on the organisation, teams and patients.
