2. To enable the student to deepen their understanding of their own leadership strengths and areas for development and to understand the role of leadership in effecting change within organizations.
1. Internal and external factors influencing change and how to overcome resistance.
2. Tools, models and theoretical concepts concerning change and organisational change capability.
3. The human aspects of change, significance of relationships, attitudes, values and culture and impact of change on individuals, teams and organizations.
4. Leadership models and concepts appropriate to change and relevance to change management approaches and the nature and role of vision in the change process.
5. Service improvement tools including Kaizen, continuous or incremental and breakthrough.
6. Change, process re-engineering.
7. Principles and practices associated with managing creativity and innovation.
8. Concepts of capability and competence, learning and cognition, personality and motivation.
9. Psychometric, intelligence, skills and other test types; validity of tests, and test methodologies.
10. Implications of different assessment and diagnostic test outcomes.
11. Personal development planning and learning opportunities and how to assess their suitability.
12. Techniques for monitoring and reviewing a PDP.
13. Reflection as a technique.
14. Techniques for assessment of performance.

The lecture materials focus on core theories and case studies relating to leadership approaches and change management as applied to the NHS. Supporting group, diagnostics, individual work and coaching will enable the student to develop their own personal leadership journey and identify how to improve their personal effectiveness in leading and managing change.

The purpose of the two written critiques is to enable the student to demonstrate learning from the personal characteristic diagnostics and their reflection using a personal development plan. Application of their learning demonstrating their role of leadership to stimulate and activate change. The content and assessment is also designed to enable the students to meet the requirements of ILM units M7.04 (The Leadership Journey) and M7.05 (Leading change in organizations).
