Why Study With Us?

Our consortium

Four organisations in the North East region have combined to develop MSc programmes of study:

  • Newcastle University
  • Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • Northumbria University
  • University of Sunderland

drawing together specialist contributions - specifically Clinical Scientists, Consultants and other Health Professionals, Clinical Networks, departments and facilities - from within each of the four partner organisations.

Our teaching network

All Higher Education Institutions in the consortium have long experience in the delivery of academic programmes to future and practising NHS staff.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is part of the wider teaching network which supports many of those programmes.

All modules on the Modernising Scientific Careers masters programmes are taught by experienced teachers, many of whom are either senior clinical scientists or leading research academics in their specialist field.

Our masters programmes have been designed to:

  • deliver face-to-face teaching of the underpinning academic specialist knowledge required to undertake all workplace themed rotations during an initial 6 week academic block; so enabling workplace rotations to be taken in any order in year 1 of STP programmes,
  • support learning through practicals, centre visits and structured student initiated tutorials,
  • develop your understanding of what it is to be a healthcare professional; establishing principles of patient-centred care and leadership at the outset of the programmes,
  • align distance learning and case/problem based assessments to support and complement workplace rotations in Year 1.
