Workshops and Lectures

BSU Student in a lecture

During Bitesize Uni (BSU) you can choose from over 30 Subject Taster Sessions and HE Information Sessions. This allows you to create your own personal programme for the event.

Subject Taster Sessions

Subject taster sessions are your chance to find out more about subject areas you are interested in and experience what it’s like to study that subject at university.

Depending on which subject sessions you choose, you may get the chance to attend a lecture, seminar or gain hands-on practical experience!

HE Information Sessions

Studying at university is different from school or college. You will be expected to work much more independently.

The HE Information Sessions have been specially tailored for students at your level of study and will help you to prepare yourself for higher education and the world of work.

Sessions include:

  • Creative Thinking
  • Student Finance
  • UCAS Personal Statement and UCAS Form
  • Building a CV
  • Where are you now?  Prepare for University

Group Work Task

Within your groups you will be asked to work on a project which will involve some creative thinking and team work. This project is a competition so your group can win prizes!

Through the sessions you'll also cover skills like:

  • team work
  • problem solving
  • communication
  • presentation
  • project planning

Do I need to bring anything for the sessions?

No, we will provide everything you need for all the sessions. This includes all materials including lab coats for the science based sessions, access to computers - indeed, everything a student would need. Having said that it might be a good idea to bring a pen as there are never enough of them around!

Do I need to do any preperation or reading beforehand?

You aren't expected to do any preparation for the sessions - everything you need to know will be explained while you are there. There will be plenty of information and loads of trained helpers around if you need them or want to ask any questions.

Will I need to do any homework?

Don't worry, there's no homework! We do encourage you to take part in discussions and ask questions in order to get the most from the sessions.
