Through our Centre for Professional and Executive Development, we offer courses to develop the knowledge and skills of your employees.

We draw on our knowledge, world-leading research and specialist expertise to provide learning and development opportunities that will enhance your organisation’s market-leading skills. We also offer professional development programmes tailored to your needs.  

The Core

Our Centre for Professional and Executive Development is located in The Core; a landmark building on the Science Central site in Newcastle city centre.

The Core's design encourages collaboration and innovation. It provides a flexible space where people and businesses can come together to share skills and knowledge

Our teaching facilities include an interactive ‘Decision Theatre’. This is one of only a handful in the UK. We also have space for meetings and teaching. Our seminar rooms that can accommodate 14 – 40 delegates.

Manager Centre for Professional & Executive Development

Barry is responsible for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) business development and promotion of partnership working with clients in the UK and overseas to design and deliver bespoke training, development and organisational interventions to improve business performance. Barry has been responsible for arranging such bespoke training groups since 2004 including international groups in particular from China (with SAFEA approval and certification), Vietnam, Nigeria and the Middle East.

 

Tuya Purevgonchig BEconSC, BLing (Mongolia)
Administrator Centre for Professional & Executive Development

Tuya has extensive UK and international experience in the customer facing and service provision environment. She is responsible for providing the key information and administration support functions required for the effective presentation and delivery of all events, including the bespoke training and development events at the Newcastle University’s Professional & Executive Development Centre.

 

Philip Thomas MSc PGCertEd
Trainer Centre for Professional & Executive Development

Internationally experienced Project Manager, Academic Lecturer and Consultant having worked both in the UK and overseas including China, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the USA. Phil is also a visiting lecturer at Newcastle University whose key subject areas include: Project Management, Quality Management, Strategic Management and Procurement.

 

Margaret Stewart BSc
Trainer Centre for Professional & Executive Development

Margaret is a project and programme manager with 20 years of experience in the public sector. She created a nationally recognised National Health Service centre for excellence with a focus on quality implementation, controlling costs and delivering requirements while managing change within a framework of governance.

 

Laurence Ferry PhD (Warwick), FCPFA, BA (Hons), PCAPL, SFHEA
Trainer Centre for Professional & Executive Development

Prof. Laurence Ferry is a visiting professor at Newcastle University with particular focus, experience and interest in CPD training groups from China. Laurence is a Professor in Accounting at Durham University Business School. He earned his PhD from the Warwick Business School, is a qualified chartered accountant, Parliamentary Fellow, and holds a first class accounting degree. His research, teaching and consulting covers accounting and accountability with a specific focus on the public sector where he is a recognized international expert in public financial management.

 

Ron Smith

Ron is a creative consultant/manager with a vast range of experience in supporting and leading organisational change in both central and local government. Previous roles include Advisor to Finance Director General and Finance Executive Team forums. DWP Finance People strategy, chair of national People Forum and development and delivery of people action plan aligning people policy and strategy, including the Diversity & Inclusion agenda. Managing Consultant DWP Finance, Head of Regional Policy Partnerships Government Office North East, Project Manager Benefit Fraud Inspectorate, Quality Network Leader Cabinet Office.

Joy is a qualified career consultant and experienced Learning and Development Practitioner specialising in people development. Joy has designed and managed programmes in a variety of industries such as IT, Higher Education, Retail, Health Care, Oil & Gas, Utilities, Insurance, Highways and Waterways. She works with individuals to enable them to maximise their personal resources and opportunities so that they might find meaningful and fulfilling work which contributes to the success of their organisation. She is certified as a Career Management Fellow by the Institute of Career Certification International.

 

Danny McAtominey MA Education, BA (Hons) Education
Trainer Centre for Professional & Executive Development

Creator of the internationally acclaimed eLearning Essentials and longtime e-learning consultant at Netskills, Newcastle University, Danny specialises in providing practical and workable e-learning solutions underpinned by sound theoretical knowledge. He has worked with leading education providers across the world in the design and development of e-learning.

Anna-Lisa Mills MSc, BSc (Hons), PGCE (PCET), PIEMA, GACSO, DipRSA
Trainer Centre for Professional & Executive Development

Anna-Lisa is a qualified Assessor, Internal Verifier and has a PGCE (PCET) teaching degree.  She currently lectures on both BSc/MSc programmes as an Associate and guest lecturer at both Northumbria and Sunderland University. She also delivers for a national training provider for the NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate and a range of environmental management courses offered by NQA, a UKAS approved certification body.  As Director of Learning at the Environmental Academy in Newcastle Anna-Lisa developed and delivered a wide range of courses from levels 1-4 across many different sectors and for many different sized organisations (including schools, universities and businesses in public, private and third sector.
