Food & Consumer Research Facility (nu-food)

In October 2012 the nu-food, Food & Consumer Research Facility underwent a £700,000 refurbishment. The facility provides excellent facilities for teaching and research within the well established key areas of Food, Nutrition and Food Marketing. It incorporates three distinct units on one site, these are:

State-of-the-art sensory laboratory and food handling facilities, these comprise:
- Industry standard facilities for research on food production methods and other treatments of foods and ingredients.
- A 10 booth sensory analysis suite for testing of foods from cooking events, research projects or product development using consumer panels or trained panels.
- High specification facilities for the preparation and storage of foods and food supplements for intervention trials and other food-related research.
- Opportunities for engagement events and other activities where participants test the use of their senses in relation to food and drink.

The Culinary training suite, which includes:
- Fully equipped teaching and demonstration facilities for preparation and cooking of food.
- Opportunities for engagement events and other activities where participants cook their own food.
- Facilities for research and cooking methods, cooking culture and cooking related psychology and behaviour.

The reception and multi-­function rooms are in a convenient city centre location and provide direct access for the public.
- Facilities for all activities involving general public, students and study participants, e.g. intervention trials and focus groups.
- Flexible space for engagement events and other activities including demonstration of food preparation.

The facilities are also available to the general public, Schools, Colleges and industry.
