Clinical Research Platform logoThe NTSC is a state of the art medical facility dedicated to furthering professional development with the best training, education and equipment the world has to offer. Combining didactic teaching and practical skills, our multidisciplinary courses are delivered to you by highly trained professional clinicians.

Utilising their expert knowledge, we provide you with help and support, and ensure trainees/delegates receive the most innovative surgical training available. As the first unit in the country of its kind to be licensed by the Human Tissue Authority, the NSTC provides a specialist forum for endoscopic skills and allows leading surgeons to provide cadaveric training in a ‘wet-lab’ environment at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital.

Since its opening in September 2007 this unique resource has gone on to achieve both national and international recognition, and is part of the national drive to improve the safety and delivery of new, near-patient technology. The NSTC’s training centre is a large multi-theatre environment, equipped with high spec Galaxy Ultra operating lights and advanced endoscopic equipment. It also consists of a comprehensive audio visual set-up with integrated cameras and video conferencing facilities; this allows you to link with both internal and external centres, and enabling transmission of live surgery (from anywhere in the world) to the NSTC’s seminar room and wet-lab.

We deliver over 70 course per year – in fields such as Anaesthetics, Cardio, Colorectal, ENT, Oral and Max Fax, Orthopaedics, Plastics, Spinal, Urology, General, Trauma and Emergency. The NSTC harnesses the skills and expertise of a number of Newcastle's endoscopic and open surgical teams.

Translational Research Facility

The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have also developed a Translational Research facility. This £1.4 million complex is located within the NSTC, providing the UK with its first combined research and training facility. This will greatly assist the sharing of ideas and collaborative work between biomedical experts at Newcastle, Durham and Northumbria Universities.

We are constantly striving to deliver the best professional development opportunities for you, the medical industry, the academic faculty, and the consultants of the future.
