Civil Engineering and Geosciences Chemical and Biological Research Laboratories
The CeG Chemical and Biological Research Laboratories consist of a suite of 30 modern research laboratories located within the Drummond, Devonshire and Cassie buildings of the University.
Services Offered
The laboratories are equipped to enable a range of chemical, biological and geoscience research activities including field sampling, sample preparation, analytical chemistry, geochemistry and molecular biology.
They are well equipped with modern analytical equipment and are used to undertake contract research projects and also for some contract service analyses that are compatible with our current research.
Specialist facilities include:
- Gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)
- Liquid chromatography (LC) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)
- Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES)
- Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and TGA-MS
- Mercury porosimetry
- Elemental analysis, including total organic carbon (TOC) analysis
- Ion chromatography
- Atomic Absorption Spectrometry
- Rock Eval analysis
- Molecular Biology suite
- Bench to pilot scale reactors for waste water treatment research
