Research Vessel The Princess Royal
The development of the School's new research vessel is well underway.
The Research Vessel Bernicia was replaced with an exciting and innovative new boat, The Princess Royal, designed by a team from the School of Marine Science and Technology at Newcastle University. The Princess Royal exploits a unique deep-vee catamaran concept and introduces many new cutting edge features.
Services Offered
The Princess Royal is a small multi-purpose ship which is used daily for research and teaching both in the North Sea and in local estuaries.
The vessel is available for charter and works at sea for a range of government and commercial organisations. Backup facilities and a wide range of marine biological and coastal management expertise are available both on the campus and at the Dove Marine Laboratory.
