Newcastle Specials is a MHRA approved pharmacy production
unit based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon
Tyne and boasts a purpose built facility and NHS lead unit status
in the North East of England.
We operate under a Specials Licence, IMP Licence
and Wholesale Dealer’s Licence and have an on-site
Quality Control Laboratory.
Skilled technical staff are responsible for delivering
high-quality manufactured products to
exacting requirements to support a wide range
of patients.
We have five specialist production zones including two for aseptic manufacture using isolator technology. This enables the preparation of products (including hazardous materials) which conform to the rigorous standards required for medicines manufacture and preparation.

We provide a responsive and committed service to our customer needs, working together to develop our product range to meet customer and users requirements. This includes development of highly specialist medicines and high risk patient ready IVs to meet National Patient Safety Agency initiatives.
Our talented team of over 40 highly experienced staff manufacture over 180,000 individual dose units per annum. We offer a wide range of sterile and nonsterile dose forms for external application and internal use:

As part of our commitment to quality standards, the unit has its own well-equipped onsite Quality Control laboratory which is involved in environmental testing, as well as checking the quality of all raw materials and containers and performing assays on manufactured medicines.
