Postgraduate Study

Postgraduate Study

We offer postgraduate research supervision in all of our main bioscience research areas.

We have approximately 90 postgraduate students who are registered for research based postgraduate degree programmes in ICaMB. The majority of our studentship programmes are four years. They include an MRes in the first year and PhD studies in years two to four.

Our staff are successful in obtaining studentships from diverse sources, such as:

  • UK Research Councils (BBSRC DTP, MRC, and EPSRC)
  • industrial CASE awards
  • charities
  • government initiatives

Each year we offer about 20 studentships to well qualified graduates.

As a postgraduate student in ICaMB you are placed in research groups containing postdoctoral workers and senior PhD students. Our research groups have equipment and resources suitable to the project, publish frequently in respected journals and attend meetings at national and international level. You also have access to our excellent research facilities.

Research support

ICaMB has a Postgraduate Tutor and a Postgraduate Student Committee. You are provided with the training and funds to present your work both within ICaMB and at scientific meetings.

We offer a mentorship scheme to all research students.

You also receive support and training from the Faculty of Medical Sciences Graduate School, and have access to excellent research facilities within the Institute and in the wider University community.
