Researchprdx-2 and nuclear staining in C.elegans

ICaMB was formed in July 2004. A large number of exceptional staff (about 50% of the total) has been recruited since then. Several of our new investigators hold research fellowships.

The Institute is the focus of basic cellular and molecular biology at Newcastle University, and are extremely proud of our achievements in integrating world-class research in prokaryotic and eukaryotic biology. ICaMB's prime motivation is to advance the knowledge and understanding in fundamental cell-science, employing a wide range of model organisms, including bacteria, protozoa, yeasts, nematodes, drosophila, zebrafish, xenopus, mammalian cells and mice.

Our mission is to understand the complex steps that lead from genotype to phenotype through integration of traditional disciplines within cell and molecular biology as well as chemistry, biophysics and computing sciences. A significant proportion of our research is relevant to medical and health sciences and to industry.

Research is informally divided into two overarching groups:

ICaMB encourages diverse collaborations, often including our affiliates and numerous national and international academic and industrial partners. Many of our staff have successfully formed spin-out companies.
