Background

Introduction

The ability to sense and respond appropriately to nutrient availability is critical for cellular homeostasis. The mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) regulates cell growth, proliferation and metabolism as well as the catabolic process of autophagy. A wide variety of cellular and environment cues signal to mTORC1 to regulate a careful balance between anabolic and catabolic processes. I am working to understand the specific mechanisms via which nutrients including amino acids and growth factors regulate mTORC1 signalling.
