Have you entered the Newcastle Appathon?

The search is on for a mobile app to improve the student experience at Newcastle University.

Almost £14,000 in prize money is up for grabs for students who can come up with and implement the very best ideas for smartphone users on campus.

The competition is open to all students, with two separate rounds:

Round One: Ideas  **NOW OPEN!**

No technical expertise required!  Simply submit your ideas for an application that would improve the student experience by making life easier on campus. Prizes for this round are:

  • 1st place - £1000
  • 2nd place - £500
  • 3rd place - £250

Entries will be judged by current students with help from industry experts and ISS. The winning ideas from this round will be implemented in round two.

To enter, simply visit the NUSU website and complete the online entry form before Friday 17 February.

Round Two: Development

Registration for the second round opens on 20 February, for individuals or groups of students to develop the winning ideas from round one into mobile applications.

Students will be assigned mentors to help them with the development process, and will have three months to develop their entry. There will be a presentation event where students can demonstrate their apps to current students, industry experts and ISS.

The grand prize of £10,000 will be awarded to the developer(s) of the winning application, with two runner-up prizes of £1,000 also available.
