North East the place to be for work experience

Companies based in the North East are the most willing to offer work experience, new research suggests.*

A recent article published on GoThinkBig.co.uk found that 66% of companies in the North East are happy for students to do work experience with them, compared to only 38% in the North West and 37% in the South East.

In response to this research, Christina Strongman, Information Officer at the Careers Service said:

"Reading that companies in the North East want to offer work experience is welcome but not surprising news! Over the years, the Careers Service has developed strong links with many local businesses who are enthusiastic about hiring our students and graduates.

"Students at Newcastle University can access our Newcastle Work Experience scheme which offers paid work experience opportunities with local companies. The term-time scheme will launch in October and all placements will be advertised on Vacancies Online.

"It’s also worth remembering that many companies only offer work experience when they have been approached by a student, rather than openly advertising a position. The Careers Service has a range of resources and support to help you find and approach companies - I would encourage all students to make the most of these resources throughout their time here."
