Marc is an experienced career and employability professional, with twenty years experience working in higher education. He joined the Careers Service as Director in January 2013 after working previously as Head of Employability at Plymouth University for fourteen years and as a careers adviser at Portsmouth University for five.
As Director of Newcastle’s award-winning Careers Service, Marc’s role includes providing institutional leadership on areas such as employability, career management, student enterprise and work-based learning. He also works with businesses, business intermediaries, voluntary and community groups in the city, region and beyond in order to develop opportunities for Newcastle students to gain experience that will add value to their academic studies and ultimately to help them gain graduate level employment when completing their studies.
Treasurer, Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS): Marc was elected to the Board of AGCAS in July 2010. In this capacity Marc also sits on the Board of HECSU (Higher Education Careers Service Unit) and regularly represents AGCAS at events, including events with the Association of Graduate Recruiters. Marc is also an accredited AGCAS Trainer, delivering training on Masters level professional development courses, and has worked on three AGCAS sub committees.
Director, Trufflehog: Trufflehog is a social enterprise which Marc set up in 2009 to publish children's books as an experiential learning opportunity for university students and recent graduates, while also providing aspiration raising opportunities for school pupils. Working with a project manager from Groundwork South West and an established children's author Helen Greathead, Trufflehog published its first book 'We Love Looe' in May 2010 and has now published four books in total with two more in development. Each book is funded by sponsorship with additional revenues from book sales.
Director, Gradsouthwest: In 2002 Marc co-founded Gradsouthwest, a regional vacancy service delivered in partnership by all of the higher education institutions in the South West of England.
