NWE offers paid work experience opportunities in local small and medium sized companies (SMEs) to bright and enterprising students. Placements are also offered on campus within the various schools and departments.
The term-time programme is open to all Newcastle University students from any degree discipline. You will be required to undertake a total of 100 hours work over 3 - 5 months, fully flexible around your timetable.
The summer programme is open to all current and graduating Newcastle University students from any degree discipline. You will undertake a part or full-time placement over a 5 or 10-week period.

The exact timescale is generally agreed between you and the host company, with the majority of placements commencing within 2-3 weeks of the advertised closing date.
Work may be undertaken during term-time or University holidays, up to a maximum of 20 hours per week.
Placements may be carried out between April and October. Placement dates will be advertised in advance for your information, where possible.

Once you have chosen a placement to apply for, use the link within the advertisement to access the online application form. Please ensure you have your CV ready to upload.
Shortlisted applications will be forwarded to the host company for review; you will be notified of the outcome of your application within 48 hours of the closing date. The most suitable candidate will be selected following a round of interviews.
We strongly recommend that you call in to the Careers Service for a 15 minute drop-in appointment with an information officer or CV adviser to review your application before submitting it.
You must be eligible to work in the UK during your studies before applying for a NWE placement. International students can visit the UKCISA website for information on working in the UK during your studies.
During each year you can complete only one term-time and one summer placement. Unsuccessful applicants are free to apply for further advertised NWE placements.
