Working in the North East

More and more Newcastle University graduates are choosing to start their careers in the North East. Almost half of those completing their studies in 2009/10 and entering employment, found jobs in the region*.

And it's not just local graduates who are opting to stay in the North East. Eight out of ten of those who choose to stay are from outside the region, representing a significant influx of talent into the area.

Not all jobs are advertised! In fact, many people create their own jobs through networking or by developing their own business ideas. Making a speculative approach to a company can also be an effective way to secure a job. Once you have identified a company you would like to work for you should approach them about possible vacancies. This is often done through an initial phone call or e-mail and followed up with a CV and covering letter. Visit our Making applications for hints and tips on presenting yourself successfully on paper .
