Visual Perception Laboratory
This custom-built, state-of-the-art visual perception laboratory allows researchers from a wide variety of clinical specialties to carry out visual system research.
Doctors and scientists at Newcastle University will, for the first time, have access to simple and complex tests of vision all in one laboratory.
Facilities include:
- eye charts used in standard eye tests
- complex measurements of pupil responses to light stimuli
- microscopes allowing examination of the retina
- cameras that can record and track eye movements
Several studies are already making use of this new facility with researchers examining:
- potential causes of visual problems in Parkinson's disease
- how memory problems might affect vision in the elderly after cataract operations
