In the process of getting older several changes occur within the body. One of these changes is a natural decline in muscle mass. Older people may notice that they are not as strong or flexible anymore as they were when they were younger. People may find that everyday tasks have become more difficult.
A nutritional supplement drink has been designed aimed at improving muscle mass and strength. A group of seventy five people aged over 65 years will be recruited into a twenty seven week long study comprising a screening period of one week, an intervention period of 13 weeks, and a follow up period of 13 weeks. Volunteers will be asked to undergo a DXA scan which looks at bone density and also to take part in assessments looking a muscle mass.
Volunteers will be recruited from the Newcastle upon Tyne and surrounding areas.
