Fairtrade

How we support Fairtrade

  • Newcastle University and the Union Society have a Fairtrade policy
  • Fairtrade foods are available for sale in all campus shops and Fairtrade products are used in all catering outlets on campus
  • Fairtrade products are served at all meetings hosted by the University and the Union Society and in all University and Union Society management offices
  • Newcastle University is committed to campaigning for increased consumption of Fairtrade products
  • Fairtrade Steering Group meets regularly to discuss how we can promote Fairtrade
  • We are members of Newcastle Fairtrade Partnership
  • We participate in each year's Fairtrade Fortnight

The Fairtrade mark guarantees a price that covers the cost of production, a social premium for producer groups to invest in business or community development, long-term trading relationships and advanced payments.

Newcastle University was first recognised by the Fairtrade Foundation as a Fairtrade University in 2006.
