Supplying Us

Our overall aim is to develop an approach to the procurement and management of the food supply chain, which provides value for money whilst delivering greater economic, social and environmental benefits. To this end we will also be looking at opportunities to work with the successful Supplier(s) to bring added value to contracts/agreements paying particular attention to:

  • Increasing the consumption of healthy and nutritious food.
  • Minimising waste.
  • Reducing packaging and using reusable packaging wherever practicable.
  • Increasing the use of seasonal goods.
  • Reducing the number of food deliveries made to the catering outlets.
  • Provide opportunities to help small producers and suppliers do business with the University e.g. negotiating with suppliers nominated by the University to act as a distributor of appropriate/complimentary goods.
  • Increasing the proportion of fairly traded products available.
  • Increasing the proportion of food produced according to a recognised farm assurance standard, e.g. Red Tractor, EurepGAP, organic, Leaf Marque, Freedom Foods or equivalents.
  • Providing reasonable support for University awareness and training schemes e.g. participation in meet the buyer events and allowing site visits to improve staff knowledge regarding food provenance etc.

This will be an ongoing process and the successful Supplier(s) will be expected to assist us to attain our objectives and improve our service over the lifespan of the contracts/agreements.
