Family walking in the woodsThe Centre, based within the multidisciplinary environment of Newcastle University's Institute for Ageing and Health, is developing two main research programmes to address the relationship between the healthy ageing brain and the healthy ageing body.

The first programme will build on existing research strengths in age-associated neuronal loss and dysfunction, neurodegeneration and vascular disease. The second will extend current research on exercise, mobility, nutrition and other lifestyles factors that can influence vitality.

By focusing on vitality, the Centre will emphasise the vast potential to deliver major benefits to patients and the general public The Centre is fully committed to developing an exciting and supportive training environment.

We are developing an innovative e-learning programme, which will provide essential background for clinicians and scientists developing a research interest in ageing and vitality.

The Centre has an extensive postgraduate training initiative and developing programme for post-doctoral scientists.
