Cognition, Behaviour and Evolution

We work to understand how organisms think, feel, perceive and behave, with a focus on adaptation and evolution.

About us

We are a diverse group of researchers spanning all three faculties at Newcastle University. Our common goal is to understand cognition and behaviour in their evolutionary and comparative context.

Our expertise spans:

  • animal behaviour and welfare
  • ecology and conservation
  • cognitive science
  • the evolution of human behaviour

We use a range of approaches. This includes work with animals in the lab and the field, human experimental psychology, and mathematical modelling and simulations.

Student-led research forms a key part of our group, from our suite of research Master’s degrees to a thriving PhD community.

Events

We hold a weekly seminar series on Tuesdays at 13:00 in the:

Henry Wellcome Building, Newcastle University, NE2 4HH
