Project

The vocal behaviour of Jackdaws (Corvus monedula)
I am currently studying the vocal behaviour and call repertoire of the Jackdaw, the small crow that lives primarily in urban environments. Coming from a background in linguistics, I am interested in the evolution of language and communication and favour a comparative approach to answering questions on this topic.

The communication system of the crow family is surprisingly understudied, yet they display the ability to use a wide variety of different calls and song for a variety of functions. My project focuses on describing and understanding this repertoire of calls and their functions.
