The Tyne and Wear Materials Society (TWMS) celebrated its 40th year in December 2007.
The event was marked by a lecture and dinner, hosted by current Secretary Professor Steve Bull, and attended by many of the Society’s original members.
In attendance was Don Maxwell, who at 80 years of age was thought to be the oldest surviving member of the Society. Mr Maxwell joined Newcastle University in 1953.
The lecture, From Angstroms to Nanometres in 40 years: a life in research, was given by Professor Trevor Page.
