We have postgraduate students from all over the world, studying in taught degree programmes, carrying out research projects leading to MPhil or PhD degrees and undertaking our new EngD programme.
In all cases, you will have to write a dissertation. Therefore, we will require quite a high level of proficiency in English as an entry requirement, typically IELTS 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 90 if an internet test is taken. If you are worried about your ability in English you should seek advice - it may be possible to be tested by the British Council in your own country. The University offers a Pre-Sessional Intensive English course during the summer vacation (for which a charge is made) for students whose English is not quite good enough.
There are a number of scholarships to which you can apply. These range from partial scholarships to more substantial ones. Visit the University's Postgraduate International pages for more information.
University Women's International Group (UWIG), is a voluntary organisation run by a group of University women for the benefit of families of overseas staff and post-graduate students at the University of Newcastle. This is a very friendly organisation, offering hospitality, help and informal English classes.
