Sustainability

ForestChemical Engineers, like all professionals nowadays, must work in a sustainable way that safeguards resources for future generations.  Because of this, we investigate the “environmental footprints” of new technologies to ensure that they really are clean. We also look at how to clean up old technologies in the best possible way.  In particular Chemical Engineers have been responsible for much of the work on managing the UK’s nuclear waste.

The School includes the Newcastle Engineering Design Centre (EDC) whose remit is to carry out research in design methods and methodologies. A major activity concerns design for lifecycle and sustainability.
