A new strand of research, creating enabling technologies for process development, has been established at Newcastle University. The area focuses on early-stage process development using High Throughput Technologies capability. This provides an accelerated route for developing continuous processes from established batch production.
Another focus of the work is a Grid-based infrastructure, developed as a result of the EPSRC project GOLD, to radically change the way collaborating companies interact throughout the research and development lifecycle. Technology from GOLD is being adopted by other e-Science projects including CARMEN.
