The School runs a number of popular taught postgraduate programmes that are designed to allow students to specialise in specific areas or to undertake conversion courses to broaden their employment prospects.
All our MSc programmes tackle areas of practical current relevance and are industrial facing in terms of taught content and research project coverage. The majority of programmes are full time study, although specific modules may be taken for the purposes of continuing professional development.
The IGDS programme follows a different format, involving part-time study, this is predominantly intended for those in employment wishing to specialise in process automation.
Candidates pursuing MPhil and PhD degrees in our School come from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, eg statisticians, mathematicians, electrical engineers, chemists, physicists and of course, chemical and process engineers.
Many of them work on projects in collaboration with other schools in the University, external institutions and with numerous companies, many of which are household names.
These collaborative projects reflect the multidisciplinary nature of the research work carried out in our School. They cover a wide range of activities such as food processing; water treatment systems; process intensification technology; solvent extraction; polymer reactors; process modelling and control; design of electrochemical reactors and fuel cells; clean technology.
In addition, we offer a prestigious Engineering Doctorate programme which combines research and industrial training in leading edge scientific and engineering techniques like Quality by Design and Process Analytical Technology which aim to more rapidly progress biopharmaceutical products through the development chain.
