Biochar application to soil has been reported to improve soil properties, enhance crop productivity and is considered to be one of the most effective means of sequestering carbon and delivering long-term carbon storage. This seminar will outline recent research undertaken at UEA relating to: 1) the influence of biochar upon concentrations and partitioning PAHs, PTEs and nutrients, and 2) soil-biochar-herbicide interactions. While some results indicate beneficial outcomes other suggest a need for great care when selecting soils for biochar amendment.
