Engaging with our industrial partners
Today our Stage 2 Civil Engineering students are showcasing their DSES projects at an exhibition to industrial partners, academic staff and students.
This assessed poster exhibition forms part of the Design of Sustainable Engineering Systems module (CEG2001) where students develop more specific analysis and design skills in a large case study. The module allows them to develop a further integrated understanding of engineering solutions incorporating; economics; risk management; resilience and awareness of whole life-cycle costing and waste management.
This project in particular concerns the redevelopment of Newcastle International Airport to accommodate a daily scheduled flight of an Airbus A380, and covers many of the key aspects of a major civil engineering project.
Dr Neil Thorpe, Lecturer in Transport Studies said,
This is an excellent opportunity for students to display their work and critique other teams’ work and discuss their ideas with industrial partners.
Stage 2 MEng student Xanthe Polaine added,
"The DSES project provides good experience of team work and producing a professional outcome. It’s a great way to end the year."
