Geomatics

Geomatics staff and students at Newcastle carry out cutting-edge research encompassed under two main themes; Geodesy and Geospatial Engineering, participating in major projects funded predominantly by research councils, industry and government.

Our findings are disseminated in leading international journals and at international conferences and symposia, as well as in professional magazines, the media and through educational outreach programmes. Geomatics formed a signficant component of the Newcastle University submission to the Civil Engineering Research Assessment Exercise 2008 and was ranked second in the UK by the influential Research Fortnight magazine.

Our research has significant relevance in non-academic settings and we regularly apply it through consultancy to industry, from the global offshore industry to local authorities and survey and engineering companies.

See more details about what we do in our Geospatial Engineering research site, our Geospatial Engineering Blog site and our Open Source Geo Lab Site.
