Corporate Social Responsibility: Are you prepared for the challenge (2009)

Author(s): Heidrich O, Ringer J, Donnelly A

Abstract: The concept of CSR embraces the environment and occupational safety traditional territory of the SHE professional. Environmental impacts and safety risks are traditionally controlled by an organisation through an in house competent technical team. The members of that team are not necessarily fully equipped to manage the full range and complexity of CSR issues in today’s global business market place. SHE professionals may be part of a team that is a stand alone unit oriented towards regulatory compliance built on robust risk assessment processes. Should they consider a move to an expanded role that embraces and manages the process of CSR then it is highly likely that they will be required to develop a range of additional skills and competencies. This paper will address the role of the SHE professional and the potential for transition into a role in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
