Climate Change Impacts & Adaptation

Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation

Our research on climate change impacts and adaptation is wide ranging. It covers the generation of scenarios through impact assessment and on to testing options for adapting to future extremes of rainfall, wind and heat.

Our scenarios work combines stochastic space-time modelling of extremes with high resolution climate models for convective rainfall. We have developed the UKCP09 weather generator which has been further developed into a spatial and urban version.

We are investigating changes in both extremes of rainfall, with drought risk studies across the UK as well as assessments of changes in flood risk on both urban and catchment settings worldwide.

Impacts of climate change on national infrastructure are being investigated through the EPSRC Infrastructure Transitions Research Consortium.

Our core membership of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research is providing new policy-oriented challenges for our climate impacts analysis.
