I am currently the IT/IS Manager for the School of Civil Engineering & Geochemistry. My background is that of a Chemist having obtained my PhD in Carbohydrate Chemistry from Birmingham University. I then went on to study the smouldering combustion of cellulose at the University of Montana, MT USA. Upon my return to the UK I worked on diesel engine emissions at Plymouth Polytechnic as a SERC Research Fellow. I followed this up by moving to the Organic Geochemistry Unit (NRG FFEG) at Newcastle University as a University Research Fellow. I continued with petroleum analytical chemistry at Newcastle.
