Scholarships and Bursaries

The School is proud to be able to offer a range of financial help for our students. In addition there is further financial support that you may be eligible for from the University.

Frank Pounder Industrial Bursaries

A Start-up Welcome Pack is awarded to all new entrants on our BSc, BEng and MEng programmes. It is intended to assist our new entrants with essential Health and Safety equipment, drawing equipment and key texts and includes:

  • Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (high visibility jacket, safety boots, hard hat, safety goggles, etc.)
  • Other course materials.

An endowment fund and industrial sponsors support these awards.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only entrants onto BSc, BEng and MEng programmes wholly within the School (excluding Physical Geography) are eligible
  • The Welcome Pack is allocated during induction week, provided the student is fully registered on the programme.

Excellence Scholarships

A generous scholarship is awarded to all our new entrants on our Civil Engineering and Geomatics BSc, BEng and MEng programmes:

  • £4000 over four years for MEng
  • £3000 over three years for BEng and BSc

Eligibility Criteria:

  • £1000 per year of study awarded to all entrants achieving at least AAB at A level on intake into Year 1 of BSc, BEng and MEng programmes wholly within the School (excluding Physical Geography)
  • When applying, the offer of a place on the programme of study at Newcastle must be accepted as their UCAS Firm Choice (CF or UF)
  • For Years 2 and 3 (and 4 if appropriate) the award continues, provided excellence is maintained by achieving an average of 65% in the previous year’s study
  • Award is paid in the January of the year of study, provided the student is fully registered on the programme
  • Comparative measures will be used for entrants applying with qualifications other than A levels
  • Judgement will exclude consideration of AS/A2 General Studies, or its equivalent
  • Final decision rests with the Head of the School

Civil Engineering and Geosciences International Undergraduate Scholarships

  • £2000 or £1000 per year for up to four years

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Awarded to new entrants on BSc, BEng and MEng programmes wholly within the School (excluding Physical Geography)
  • £2000 for each year of study if enters with Grade A average or equivalent
  • £1000 for each year of study if enters with Grade B average or equivalent
  • When applying, the offer of a place on the programme of study at Newcastle must be accepted as their UCAS Firm Choice (CF or UF)
  • For Years 2 and 3 (and 4 if appropriate) the award continues, provided excellence is maintained by achieving an average of 65% (for £2000) or 60% (for £1000) in the previous year’s study (65% is equivalent to an average upper second and 60% is equivalent to an upper second)
  • Award is paid in the January of the year of study, provided the student is fully registered on the programme
  • International students are those who are not of a European Union country and who pay international fees
