Scholarships and Bursaries

The School is proud to be able to offer a range of financial help for our students. In addition there is further financial support that you may be eligible for from the University.

Frank Pounder Industrial Bursaries

Awarded to all new entrants on BSc, BEng and MEng programmes

  • A Start-up Welcome Pack, including appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. high visibility jacket, safety boots, hard hat, safety goggles, etc.) and other course materials
  • Awarded to all new entrants on BSc, BEng, MEng and MEarthSci programmes wholly within the School
  • Intended to assist new entrants with essential Health and Safety equipment, drawing equipment and key texts, etc.
  • The Welcome Pack is allocated during induction week, provided the student is fully registered on the programme

Civil Engineering Excellence Scholarships

Awarded to all new entrants on our Civil Engineering BEng and MEng programmes, providing they meet the criteria

  • £4000 over four years for MEng
  • £3000 over three years for BEng

 Criteria:

  • £1000 per year of study awarded to all entrants achieving at least A*AA at A level on intake into Year 1 of the BEng and MEng programmes
  • When applying, the offer of a place on the programme of study at Newcastle must be accepted as their UCAS Firm Choice (CF or UF)
  • For Years 2 and 3 (and 4 if appropriate) the award continues, provided excellence is maintained by achieving an average of 65% in the previous year’s study
  • Paid in the January of the year of study, provided the student is fully registered on the programme and has fully engaged with the programme (i.e. attended regularly, etc)
  • Comparative measures will be used for entrants applying with qualifications other than A levels
  • Judgement will exclude consideration of AS/A2 General Studies, or its equivalent
  • Final decision rests with the Head of the School

Geomatics Excellence Scholarships

Awarded to all new entrants on our Geomatics BSc programmes, providing they meet the criteria

  • £3000 over three years

 Criteria:

  • £1000 per year of study awarded to all entrants achieving at least AAB at A level on intake into Year 1 of BSc Geomatics programmes wholly within the School
  • When applying, the offer of a place on the programme of study at Newcastle must be accepted as their UCAS Firm Choice (CF or UF)
  • For Years 2 and 3 the award continues, provided excellence is maintained by achieving an average of 65% in the previous year’s study
  • Paid in the January of the year of study, provided the student is fully registered on the programme and has fully engaged with the programme (i.e. attended regularly, etc)
  • Comparative measures will be used for entrants applying with qualifications other than A levels

Earth Science Excellence Scholarships

Awarded to all new entrants on our Earth Science BSc and MEarthSci programmes, providing they meet the criteria

  • £4000 over four years for MEarthSci
  • £3000 over three years for BSc

 Criteria:

  • £1000 per year of study awarded to all entrants achieving at least AAB at A level on intake into Year 1 of the BSc and MEarthSci programmes
  • When applying, the offer of a place on the programme of study at Newcastle must be accepted as their UCAS Firm Choice (CF or UF)
  • For Years 2 and 3 (and 4 if appropriate) the award continues, provided excellence is maintained by achieving an average of 65% in the previous year’s study

Civil Engineering and Geosciences International Undergraduate Scholarships

  • £2000 per year for up to four years

Criteria:

  • Awarded to new entrants on BSc, BEng, MEng and MEarthSci programmes wholly within the School
  • £2000 for each year of study if enters with Grade A average or equivalent
  • When applying, the offer of a place on the programme of study at Newcastle must be accepted as their UCAS Firm Choice (CF or UF)
  • For Years 2 and 3 (and 4 if appropriate) the award continues, provided excellence is maintained by achieving an average of 65% in the previous year’s study
  • Paid in the January of the year of study, provided the student is fully registered on the programme and has fully engaged with the programme (i.e. attended regularly, etc)
  • International students are those who are not of a European Union country, and who pay international fees

  • Lighthouse Club Student Awards
    • Exists to help students into higher education in construction related courses
    • £1500 per year from the Charity for the duration of their undergraduate course
