Catchment Management

[ Book online ]

Pressures on the natural environment are increasing and changing in nature because of increases in the human population, climate change and changes in land use.

There is a clear view that we need to manage our landscape more effectively if we are to alleviate these pressures. Therefore this course aims to identify how we help manage rural catchments through engineering. The course is designed to present and clarify the basic engineering approaches to catchment management in rural areas. In addition to the basic concepts and theory the course will examine the practical engineering approaches necessary to minimise the effects of flood risk and diffuse pollution during fieldwork.

The course is designed for practitioners and their managers. It will therefore be of value to water companies, river trusts and regulators. It will also appeal to research students who are considering taking up careers in catchment management.
