Welcome to the Supporting Children and Families in the North East network webpage, where you will find lots of resources and further information from our recent event ‘Supporting Children and Families in the North East: Are Children’s Zones the way forward?’. The event was organised by Prof Liz Todd and Karen Laing of the Research Centre for Learning and Teaching and was supported by the Newcastle University Social Renewal Fund. The aim of the event was to enable practitioners in the North East to come together to learn about and discuss new ways of working holistically with families and schools, and to look at the role of Newcastle University in supporting this development.

3. Further events
This event was the third in a series of events that are aiming to create a network of practitioners interested in models of working together to achieve the best outcomes for children and families. Information about the first event ‘Moving forward: Extended schools and services into the future’ can be found here.
A further event, designed specifically to enable networking and planning for the future was held on 1 March 2013. More information about that event can be found here.
Future events are currently being planned. The next meeting of the ‘Supporting Children and Families in the North East Network is on 16th September from 12.30 - 3.30pm, in the Doctoral Training Suite, 7th Floor, Daysh Building, Newcastle University. There is also a showcase event by the Research Centre for Learning and Teaching on 18th September from 4-6pm. Do come along and find out how researchers in the Centre work with schools and other organisations.
