Dr Toby Quibell is a schoolteacher and grouptherapist, working in schools with children who are dis-engaged from the curriculum, and/or on the verge of exclusion, and/or are having a hard time at home. He is Director of The Learning Challenge, a charity set up in the early Nineties on the Meadow Well Estate in North Shields.
“I have worked in many of the troubled schools in the North East, and at present am working in Northumberland and Sunderland. The work with children aims to provide children with the skills to manage their emotional states and to equip them with positive responses to familiar destructive scenarios in school and outside. To do this I have developed a range of creative tools that include film making, animation and arts-based therapeutic techniques. The Research Centre for Learning and Teaching is important for me as it provides a forum for sharing ideas and stimulating research.”
