School of Chemistry

The School of Chemistry is dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive and supportive culture for all staff, students and visitors.

Through our School Diversity Committee and Self-Assessment Team we continually make and monitor initiatives that ensure a supportive working environment which values every individual within our chemistry community.

In recognition of this commitment, the School of Chemistry was awarded a Bronze Athena SWAN award in April 2015.

Equality and Diversity Group

The School’s Equality and Diversity Group, established in June 2013, is responsible for co-ordinating our efforts. The composition of the group ensures input from all staff and student groups across the School.

The School’s Diversity Committee is committed to delivering the Action Plan submitted as part of Bronze application, reviewing and recommending best practice in School policies and procedures relating to equality and diversity in all aspects of our activities.

Athena SWAN Self Assessment Team

The Athena SWAN Charter recognises advancement of gender equality: representation, progression and success for all. The award recognises work undertaken in the School to provide a supportive working environment where everyone can succeed.

The School’s Self Assessment Team (SAT) leads and supports the Athena Swan Bronze award submission process and is committed to delivering the Action Plan proposed as part of Bronze application. They also work closely with the Equality and Diversity Committee to ensure best practice in School policies and procedures. The SAT meets bi-monthly to monitor action plan progress and update the SAT about School/Faculty/University developments.
