RSC Kilcoyne 6th form Christmas Lectures

Tim Harrison and Dudley ShallcrossThe School of Chemistry is delighted to continue to host this annual event on behalf of our RSC Local Section (Newcastle and North East Coast). This year's lecture are to be held on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th December in the Alec Campbell Lecture Theatre in the Bedson Building. In 2010 the previously titled "6th Form Christmas Lecture" was renamed in honour of, and delivered by, Dr John Kilcoyne (Sunderland University) to commemorate his decades of delivering inspirational chemistry demonstration lectures to schoolchildren of all ages and the general public.

The speakers this year are Prof Dudley Shallcross and Tim Harrison from the School of Chemistry at Bristol University. Their lecture is entitled "A Pollutant's Tale" and covers the chemistry of the atmosphere, gases in the air, atmospheric pollution and global warming. There will be two performances: 5.30pm on Monday 16th — for both school groups and the general public and 10.00am on Tuesday 17th — primarily for 6th form/schools groups. Admission is free to either lecture but as they are traditionally very popular and to avoid overbooking the seating capacity of the venue, pre-booking is required via the Eventbrite link below. A poster for the event can also be downloaded.
