Success of Chemistry School Open Days

Head of School Prof Mike Green

At the beginning of July, the Chemistry School played host to parents and prospective students in a series of open day events. "The response has been fantastic" says Professor Mike Green, Head of School "Not only did we have record numbers attending, but we were able to show them our new facilities and explain the value of a Chemistry Degree". Many visitors were local, but some travelled from as far a field as Dorset and Kent. The overall view as indicated in the figures and the comments below show that it was well worth the trip.

Chemistry School admin team.In addition to the excellent lecture facilities and enthusiastic staff, the new Physical Chemistry Teaching Laboratory was also on show. This neatly compliments the state of the art Organic/Inorganic Laboratory, making the facilities amongst the most modern in the Country for the teaching of Chemistry — see our 3D tour to explore some of these facilities yourself. A new School Office was completed last week and this will act as a spacious and well appointed area enabling maximum interaction between students and staff. "A new student common room is also currently being prepared for years 1-3" Says Mike. "This will allow students to study and relax between lectures and practical classes". Fourth year students, who are undertaking mini-research projects, share the recently modernised Faraday Room with research students and staff.

Although the Chemistry School has formal open days it is always keen to show prospective students and parents around. If you would like to visit, please contact Mike at mike.green@ncl.ac.uk.
